This Study relates to a method and apparatus which inhibits the theft of equipment such as personal computers.

References of particular interest will describe a locking system and method for a portable electronic device.

Steps for locking the device comprise:

a) Inserting a locking member that is part of an attachment mechanism into a security slot, having in a wall of the portable electronic device;

b) Dimensions of the security slot would ideally be about 3 mm×7 mm (but not necessary); 

c) Securing said attachment mechanism to the portable electronic device via the security slot,

d) Maintaining a locked configuration using the attachment mechanism, wherein the portable electronic device is secured to an object other than the portable electronic device.
