SPEECH PROCESSING - RIMM

The '055 Patent relates generally to a speech processing system, and more particularly to accounting for periodicity when the pitch period is shorter than the adaptive and fixed codebook vectors. The '485 Patent relates generally to a speech processing system, and more particularly to the ways in which speech decoders conceal data losses due to transmission errors.

Basis for Selection:

A lawsuit is pending with the patent holder Research in Motion claiming patent infringement by Motorola. Research in Motion has declared that the patents are essential to various standards and recommendations developed by ETSI and ITU.

The ‘055 Patent:
In accordance with an embodiment of the invention in the '055 Patent, a speech processing system which includes an adaptive codebook and a fixed codebook coupled to a pitch filter, is adapted to determine the pitch filter gain based on a delayed adaptive codebook gain.

The ‘485 Patent:
In accordance with an embodiment of the invention in the '485 Patent, a speech decoder that fails to receive a portion or all of two consecutive frames of speech data stores pitch period information for the first erased frame, and then increments that value for the second erased frame.
